Social Security is trying to reduce the barriers and ensure fair treatment of the LGBTQ+ community by updating some of their procedures.
One major change is that people will soon be able to “self-select their sex” as noted in their Social Security records.
People who choose to update their sex marker in Social Security’s records will not be required to provide any proof or documentation to support their selection. This new policy is expected to be in place by the fall of 2022.
