The CDC is reporting that 1 in 36 children have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network did a study of 8-year-olds in eleven states, including Arkansas. They found that approximately 4% of boys and 1% of girls have ASD.
I’ve certainly noticed this in our disability practice. We’ve seen a sharp incline in the number of kids and young adults with autism diagnoses applying for SSI.
Is this because more young people actually have autism now?
Or is it because the medical community is finally learning to properly diagnose this disorder?
